Iriyama Heitaro (Hakuo)
"Hand shelf -Cherry Blossom", 1933
Tokyo University of the Arts - '44th Graduation Works Exhibition', graduation work
Hakuo was born 1904 , in the family of a lacquer art master and therefore received a basic education in lacquer crafts from a young age. He enrolled in the lacquer crafts department of Ueno Fine Arts School ( today Tokyo University of the Arts ) in 1928. Ever since, he continued to push himself forward in the field of lacquer arts as a pioneer developing original techniques and new ways. This early work is owned by Tokyo University of the Arts and we were delighted to get a glimpse on it during our research.
